In her poetic abstract paintings, Carolin Meier (b. 1989) is in search of making sensitivity visible. She reflects on themes of internal and external rhythms and nuances of personality. She creates emotionally-laden and atmospheric paintings through layers of colour and intuitive, gestural mark-making on paper and cotton canvas in predominantly oil, conveying inner states with a constant awareness of tactility, colour, and composition. Carolin’s works are painted in a process-led approach by accessing emotional terrain and exploring her lived experiences, creating enigmatic pieces that enable her to express herself in ways true to her introverted, hypersensitive nature.

Carolin grew up in Germany and the USA. Receiving her MA in Architecture, she has previously worked as an architect (Herzog & de Meuron, Switzerland) and a sustainability consultant in Germany and the UK, where she is now based and pursuing her creative practice from her studio in South London.
