In her poetic and expressive abstract paintings, Carolin Meier (b. 1989) often reflects on themes of movement vs. stillness, introspection, and nuances of personality, including the experiences that shift and shape us throughout a lifetime. She creates emotionally-charged and atmospheric paintings through layers of colour-fields and intuitive, gestural mark-making on paper and cotton in predominantly acrylic and oil, conveying complex inner states with a constant awareness of tactility and texture. Carolin’s works are executed in a process-led approach through accessing emotional landscapes and processing lived experiences, creating enigmatic compositions that enable her to express herself in ways true to her introverted, hypersensitive nature.
Born in Germany, Carolin grew up in parts of Northern Germany and the US. Receiving her MA in Architecture, she has previously worked as an architect (Herzog & de Meuron, CH) and a sustainability consultant in Germany and the UK, where she is now based and pursuing her creative practice from her studio in South London.
